Yay! A new image of everyone's favorite smexy fire mare! The only reason I have had time to do this is because it is my "enter" and "theme" image for the website that I have to make for my digital illustration class.

Whoa man did I learn a lot from this painting! And I couldn't have done it without 2 very inspirational images.

First of all the recent image done by the lovely *moodymand -> [link] This image was a revelation of how to go about creating a realistic red equine. I knew there had been something wrong with any image of Freha that was "realistic"... I was forgetting that her skin would show up as black not just a continuation of the red of her body. Moody's image also helped me figure out the facial structure, I have been struggling with that for years, and I find that I learn better and faster when I study how another artist draws something rather than from a photograph.

The second image is =Losmios's absolutely gorgeous image of Freha -> [link] I fell in love with the idea of Freha walking in water, the steam of her extinguished legs swirling about her. So I had to snitch the idea and use it myself.

Above and beyond those to images I used multiple references of horses rearing in order to get the shine and muscle structure "right." The pose was not drawn with reference, and as always the muscles have been embellished to my fantastical liking.

All in all I am spastically proud of this image. And when I eventually get a website of my own, this image will proudly be placed as the enter image.
