Artist's Comments

This is 3 of 4 illustrations I'm doing as a final project in my Adv. Illustration class. Each of the illustrations portrays a creature I created.

Does her skin look "alabaster" ? O_o? I tried to get it to look right, but it just seems like I didn't put enough values into the skin.

I know she has anatomy problems, but I couldn't find a reference for the pose, and I'm not petite enough to pose for a reference myself. Oh well, at this point I'm just trying to find something that I can do to please my Prof, but the harder I try the farther I seem to get from that "goal".

Very nice! What helps with the skin is to smooth it out so there are NO sharp shadows-- it makes the skin look clearer, younger, and more radiant.

Did you want the skin to warm or cool? If cool, I would have used a slight amount of blue in the shadows, and if warm, a slight amount of purple. Instead of using black in the shadows, use colors like blue, purples, and greens. It adds more color to the picture without being over-saturated.

...and I rambled on in my comment, didnt I? XD Good luck with the project!

I like RevRuby's comment. Best of all I recommend you work at pleasing you, which I know isn't relevant in the case that the teacher is the one giving you a grade. You'll find that the same as you go on at it, because eventually the grade is who pays for what.

Still, at the end of it all, you're going to be the one looking back on the complete gallery. I think it more important that you can say to yourself at the last, "Did I improve? Yes I did. Do I like this work? Yes I do." That's what will make you happiest, despite the opinions of others.

As for the work, it might be a bit short, but it is at the least immediately understandable. This is the kind of thing that makes game book covers, novel covers, and desk tops. Nothing earth shaking, but attractive to some.
